Electroencephalography

EEG

EEG (electroencephalography) is an examination that records the brain's electrical activity. Using electrodes attached to your head, electrical signals in the brain can be recorded in the EEG machine where they are eventually processed and can be seen in the form of waves on a screen. During the examination, we make a video recording of you. The examination is painless.

Why is the examination performed?

EEG is a useful examination for investigating various conditions such as fainting, epilepsy, coma, personality changes, eating disorders, sleep disorders, and after various events.

During electroconvulsive therapy, also called electroshock treatment, EEG is used for monitoring.

    The patient library in Arendal is located in the basement of the main building. It is self-service and open 24 hours a day. Here you can borrow books and read newspapers and magazines.Flowers and perfumeMany people want to give a flower greeting when they visit a patient at the hospital, but due to allergies and infection risk, several of our departments are flower-free. We appreciate it if you, who want to bring a gift to the patient, choose something other than flowers.

    Photography, filming and sound recording

    Many patients and relatives want to take pictures/videos or blog from their time at the hospital. Of course, you are welcome to do so, as long as you respect the privacy of others.

    Here are a couple of good tips for using social media for you as a patient or relative:

    Parents/guardians decide whether you can take pictures of children or publish pictures of their children online. Parents should consider what is best for the child. When the child is 12 years old, great weight should be given to what the child thinks. When the child is 15 years old, they decide for themselves whether it is okay to be photographed and whether it should be published.

    Remember that employees must also give their permission if you want to publish pictures you have taken of them.

    You should remove content you have published if the person involved asks you to. If others have posted pictures of you on the internet without permission, you can ask the person to delete it. If you are not heard, you can contact:

    ​It is not illegal to make recordings of conversations you yourself participate in for private use. Publishing and sharing, however, requires consent from the person you are talking to. Secret recordings of conversations you do not participate in are illegal.
    Hairdresser

    Have you been abroad?

    It could be, for example, hospitalization, extensive outpatient treatment, or a visit to the dentist. Then your family doctor must test you for bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics (e.g. MRSA).

    Ask your family doctor to send you the test results before the appointment with us and bring them with you to the hospital.

    Chapel/quiet room

    Sometimes we need a room for rest and reflection. We have three such rooms available for you and your relatives. The rooms are open to everyone regardless of beliefs and faith.

    In Arendal, you will find the hospital's quiet room/chapel in the basement of the main building. In Kristiansand, the room is located on the first floor of the main building, north entrance. Both rooms are open 24 hours a day. In Flekkefjord, the chapel is located by the parking lot to the left of the main entrance.
     

    There is also the possibility of holding a memorial service in the chapel in the event of a death. This is arranged by contacting the hospital chaplains.


    Eg church in Kristiansand is open every weekday between 08-18, for those who want a room for silence and reflection. Open from 10-18 on weekends.

    In the kiosk you can buy newspapers, magazines, fruit, chocolate, cookies, ice cream, soft drinks, flowers, cards and various gift items.

    "Kilden" cafeteria is located together with the kiosk and has the same opening hours.The cafeteria serves, among other things, rolls, baguettes, salads, cakes, hamburgers and sausages.

    Register as a customer with your license plate and bank card at www.autopay.io. When you have registered, you will automatically pay each time you park in the parking garage.

    During certain periods, e.g. when there is a lot of snow, it can be difficult to find a parking space. We therefore recommend that you allow plenty of time.

    Arendal: Electric cars can park for free in areas marked with a maximum of 1, 2 or 3 hours. In other areas, a fee must be paid from the first hour.Kristiansand: Electric cars pay a fee from and including the first hour.

Not all of our hospital areas have charging stations, and those that do have a limited number. They meet you on your terms, regardless of beliefs, worldview and lifestyle. The hospital chaplains are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for patients, relatives and employees.
