User Involvement
User involvement is an important part of developing high-quality health services. Patients, relatives and young users contribute valuable experiences that help us improve treatment services and the patient experience.
User involvement means that patients actively participate in decisions about their own treatment. In addition, patients, relatives and other users of the healthcare system should have the opportunity to influence how health services are designed and delivered.
This means that their experiences and needs are taken into account in decisions that affect both individual treatment and the development of health services.
This can take place through feedback, collaboration with healthcare professionals, or participation in councils and committees. User involvement is important to make services fairer, more effective and better suited to those who need them.

The committee is an advisory body to the board and the managing director on matters concerning specialist healthcare services.
An online course has been developed at the initiative of the country's regional health authorities, in collaboration with the Norwegian Federation of Organisations of Disabled People (FFO), the Cooperation Forum of Organisations of Disabled People (SAFO) and the Norwegian Cancer Society.
The online course is in accordance with the “Guidelines for user involvement at system level in health trusts”, adopted by all the country's regional health authorities in 2017.
The Patient and User Ombudsman safeguards patients' needs, interests and legal rights. You can contact the Ombudsman when you need advice and information about your rights. They can also help you exercise your right to appeal. Every county has a Patient and User Ombudsman.
The Youth Council at Sørlandet Hospital currently consists of five people aged 16 to 25. All representatives have experience as patients or relatives at the hospital, and valuable experience and knowledge to share.
