Gynecological Outpatient Clinic, Kristiansand

The Women's Clinic's gynecological outpatient clinic welcomes patients who have an appointment or need emergency care. We treat women with gynecological conditions, such as menstrual disorders, prolapse of the pelvic organs, ovarian or uterine tumours (cysts), urinary incontinence, hormonal disorders, infertility, cellular changes, pelvic pain, those seeking an abortion, and pain/bleeding in early pregnancy. We have a dedicated day unit where all patients with gynecological cancer receive chemotherapy. The unit works directly with the Radium Hospital at Oslo University Hospital. We also treat abortion patients in our day unit.

A consultation with us usually takes 30 minutes, and we usually perform a gynecological examination with ultrasound and, if necessary, tissue samples. A doctor and a nurse are always present. You may bring someone with you if you wish.

We also perform minor procedures at the outpatient clinic, such as removal of the cervix.

If you wish to have an abortion, you have the right to book an appointment directly yourself. You do not need a referral, but you must have had a positive pregnancy test and be at least 5–6 weeks pregnant before booking an appointment. We also recommend that you have contacted your own doctor first.

This applies particularly to those who have undergone type 3 female genital mutilation (often referred to as “infibulation”).

You can call to book an appointment directly, or be referred to the Women's Clinic outpatient clinic by a doctor, midwife or public health nurse.

Many people wish to bring flowers when visiting a patient in hospital, but due to allergies and the risk of infection, flowers are not allowed in several of our departments. If you would like to bring the patient a gift, we would appreciate it if you chose something other than flowers.

Some patients also have allergic reactions to perfume or perfumed creams. Please bear this in mind.

Many patients and relatives wish to take photos/videos or blog during their time in hospital. Of course, you are welcome to do so, as long as you respect the privacy of other patients and staff.

Here are a few useful tips for patients and relatives using social media:

  • Be considerate of others. You must have consent if you wish to take photos or videos of patients or staff. All patients are entitled to privacy while in hospital.
  • Parents/guardians decide whether you can take photos of children or publish photos of their children online. Parents should consider what is best for the child. Once a child has reached the age of 12, their views must be given considerable weight. Once a child has reached the age of 15, they decide for themselves whether it is okay to be photographed and whether the photos may be published.
  • Remember that staff must also give their permission if you wish to publish photos you have taken of them.
  • You should remove content you have published if the person concerned asks you to. If someone has posted photos of you online without your permission, you can ask them to delete them. If they do not comply, you can contact: www.slettmeg.no.

Audio recordings
It is not illegal to record conversations in which you participate for private use. However, publishing and sharing recordings requires the consent of the person you are speaking with. Secretly recording conversations in which you do not participate is illegal.
