New emergency care building:

Construction can now begin

The board of the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority approved the plans and funding for a new emergency care building at Eg in Kristiansand today. “We are looking forward to getting started, and plan to begin construction at the end of the month,” says project manager Jarl Sandnes.

The building project is the largest on the hospital site in Kristiansand since 1989, and the work will continue for three years. The hospital is building together with Kristiansand Municipality, which is establishing a health centre next door. The parties have worked closely together on the development of the shared building.

“This is particularly pleasing. The collaboration is important to ensure good patient pathways, efficient use of resources and better coordination between municipal and specialist health services,” says Svein Gjedrem, chair of the board of the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority.

Work on the contract with the main contractor is in its final stages. Once the agreement is ready, construction will begin.

“Building while the hospital is fully operational will require a little extra from all of us. We are planning measures to minimise disruption, but patients and relatives may experience noise and vibrations when visiting the hospital. We will do our best to take this into account,” says the project manager.

Important involvement

Hospital and Kristiansand Municipality employees, as well as representatives of patients and relatives, have been involved in planning the building. This involvement will continue.

“We are also drawing on experience from other similar projects. This will help us create the best possible building, designed to support good patient care and good working conditions,” says Sandnes.
