How much activity you should have after the surgery is individual. If you become swollen one day, you have probably been too active too early. Then it is important that you take more breaks during the day. Feel free to lie down with your leg elevated for half an hour after activity and exercise.
It is important that training and movement in the knee are not stopped by pain. Therefore, it is recommended that you take pain medication as prescribed by the surgeon, as long as you need it.
Some may need aids such as a long shoehorn or long grabber to become self-sufficient after the surgery. You can borrow aids from the aid center in your municipality.
Use crutches!
After the surgery, you can have full weight-bearing on the operated leg. You should still use crutches initially to give the muscles and wound some relief, and to achieve the best possible gait pattern.
Use crutches until you can walk without limping. If you only use one crutch, it should be held on the opposite side of the operated leg.
Always use anti-slip tips on the crutches if you are walking on slippery surfaces. Regularly check that the tips on the crutches are not worn out. If they are worn out and need to be replaced, you can buy new tips at the pharmacy.

Going up stairs

Upward: The healthy leg is lifted first, then the operated leg and the crutches.

Downward: Set the crutches down first, then the operated leg and the healthy leg last.
