Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AFR)

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AFR) provides patients and their families with interdisciplinary support to manage their lives through assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation. Rehabilitation is about helping you regain physical, mental, and social function lost due to illness or injury. We treat patients after brain injury, stroke, movement challenges following multiple complex fractures, after leg amputation, and for musculoskeletal pain. We also offer a treatment program for morbid obesity in children and adults.

Through evidence-based practice, open dialogue, and active participation from you and your family, the department will contribute to increased function and coping skills.

Treatment can take place through an outpatient assessment, in the inpatient unit, or through a series of day treatments.

The treatment teams are interdisciplinary, composed of various professional disciplines to meet your needs. All teams are led by a physician with specialist competence in physical medicine.

AFR has two units:
Unit for Specialized Rehabilitation
Unit for Physical Medicine and Prevention

Many patients and family members want to take photos/videos or blog about their time at the hospital. Of course, you are welcome to do so, as long as you respect the privacy of other patients and employees.

Here are a few good tips for using social media for you as a patient or family member:

  • Respect others. You must have consent if you want to take pictures or videos of patients or employees. All patients have the right to privacy when they are at the hospital.
  • Parents/guardians decide whether you can take pictures of children or publish pictures of their children online. Parents should consider what is best for the child. When the child is 12 years old, great weight should be given to what the child thinks. When the child is 15 years old, they decide for themselves whether it is okay to be photographed and whether it may be published.
  • Remember that employees must also give their permission if you want to publish pictures you have taken of them.
  • You should remove content you have published if the person involved asks you to. If someone has posted pictures of you online without permission, you can ask them to delete it. If you are not heard, you can contact: www.slettmeg.no.

Sound recording
It is not illegal to make recordings of conversations you participate in for private use. Publishing and sharing, however, requires consent from the person you are talking to. Secret recordings of conversations you do not participate in are illegal.

Have you worked in healthcare or received healthcare outside of Scandinavia in the last year?

For example, this could be an inpatient stay, extensive outpatient treatment, or a visit to the dentist. Then your family doctor must test you for bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics (e.g., MRSA).

Ask your family doctor to send you the test results before your appointment with us and bring them with you when you come to the hospital.

We encourage everyone to use mobile etiquette and to respect their fellow patients. It is important to put your phone on silent at night, and on mute or vibrate during the day. Out of consideration for other patients, it is advisable to leave the room if you need to have a longer conversation.

Smoking can cause discomfort to others. Thank you for showing consideration and contributing to Sørlandet Hospital being a smoke-free environment.

Do you need someone to talk to? Our hospital chaplains have extensive experience in meeting people in various life situations. They meet you on your terms, regardless of faith, belief, and worldview. The hospital chaplains are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for patients, family members, and employees.

Would you like to get in touch? Then you can ask the hospital staff for help, or call the switchboard on telephone: 38 07 30 00.

The hospital chaplains also facilitate contact with other religious and belief communities.

If you need an interpreter, you must notify the hospital of this well in advance of the appointment. Expenses for the interpreter are covered by the healthcare service.Helsenorge.no
