Today, the managing director signed the contract digitally.

“We are grateful for the trust and look forward to getting started immediately,” says Atle Monan, district manager for Veidekke Construction Agder.

Broad participation

Today, the parties digitally signed the contract for the preliminary project. The new emergency care building and municipal health centre have a total budget of NOK 2.266 billion, of which construction costs account for approximately NOK 1.5 billion. Kristiansand Municipality, Sørlandet Hospital, Sykehusbygg and Veidekke will now work together to further develop the construction project, with the aim of signing the final construction contract by the end of 2025.

“This collaborative phase is extremely important, because now we need to find the very best solutions for patients and everyone who will work in the buildings. Broad participation is at the heart of this work. We are making it possible for staff and patients to provide input and influence the process so that we can deliver a forward-looking healthcare service and the best possible working environment,” says Nina Mevold, managing director of Sørlandet Hospital.

Collaboration ensures quality

Employees from the four parties will now work together at Eg.

“Kristiansand Municipality has extensive experience using collaborative methods to develop projects together with contractors, architects and consultants. This is a good way to ensure quality, innovation and cost-effectiveness in our projects,” says Camilla Dunsæd, municipal director of Kristiansand.

Sørlandet Hospital and Kristiansand Municipality share the goal of developing Helsebyen Eg.

“Building close to the municipal building will provide patients with an even more integrated healthcare service, because cooperation between the hospital and municipal health services will be easier,” says Mevold.

“It is also cost-effective to work with the hospital on joint planning, construction and operations,” says Dunsæd.

On track

Sykehusbygg HF has established a joint project organisation to develop the project.

“The project has an exciting delivery strategy with great potential for efficient construction and operations,” says Terje Bygland Nikolaisen, managing director of Sykehusbygg.

He says there was considerable market interest in the contract, with several good bids.

“Veidekke won the competition by, among other things, demonstrating the best expertise in project development, and we have high expectations for developing good solutions. In the preliminary project, we will show that we can meet the requirements for the agreed functions within the financial framework that has been set. Veidekke will now engage an architect, consultants and key subcontractors, which means we are on track for occupancy by the end of 2028,” says Nikolaisen.
