The hospital and municipality will build a total of 16,600 square metres, side by side. In addition, the hospital will renovate 3,600 square metres in the existing main building.
“This is an important milestone, and we are pleased to have come this far in this long-awaited project,” says SSHF Project Director Per W. Torgersen.
“When we cooperate on space, equipment, technology and expertise, it will also lead to better and more efficient patient pathways,” says Erik Sandsmark, Project Director for Kristiansand Municipality.

The two clients will have one design-and-build contractor. The first step is to prequalify bidders with extensive expertise in collaborative working. The contractor must also have experience with at least three similar projects over the past ten years. By mid-October, it will be clear which three or four contractors meet all the criteria to proceed in the competition. The design-and-build contractor will be selected by week 2 of 2025 at the latest.
“Work will start immediately. We are then ready for the next phase of the project and expect the selected contractor to be ready to begin work as well. We reserve the right to change this depending on funding in the 2025 national budget, but are confident that the project will proceed as planned,” says Torgersen.
Sykehusbygg has been engaged to manage the project. Sykehusbygg Project Director Morten Christoffersen hopes that major companies will want to take on the challenge:
“This is an important project for everyone in Agder. I want to create a model project characterised by strong performance, efficiency and innovation,” he says.
