This will be new
The new building will facilitate good patient care and good working conditions. We will have more space for patients and their families. There will be a better flow in the emergency care pathway between the helicopter landing area and the reception of acutely ill patients, the operating department and the intensive care unit.
These units will move into the new building
The emergency department will be on the 1st floor. The acute ward and outpatient injury clinic will also be located here. We are renovating the current main building to make room for a new CT scanner.
The intensive care unit, post-operative unit, including same-day admissions, and four new operating rooms will be on the 2nd floor. Changes will be made to the current main building to expand the medical intermediate care ward.
The dialysis department and neonatal intensive care unit will move in on the 3rd floor.
The roof will have a helicopter landing pad. It is designed for the new AW 101 Sar Queen rescue helicopter.
More space - new opportunities
We can now better facilitate infection control when infection rates in the population are high. The emergency department will have a separate entrance to support this, and there will also be more space for isolation rooms. The new building will also make it easier to comply with confidentiality requirements, and relatives will have more opportunities to be present.
At the neonatal intensive care unit, we will provide family-centred care. We are building large family rooms where parents can stay with their child who needs intensive care.
