Advisory Board

The Norwegian Amputation Registry, Noramp-rehab, was established in 2022. The Advisory Board is the highest governing body of NorAmp-Rehab. It consists of a multidisciplinary group with representatives from various professional groups working in amputation rehabilitation. Two digital meetings are held annually. Additional meetings may be called when needed, for example in the event of an expansion or a need to make changes to the registry. Bylaws have been drawn up, including provisions governing the work and areas of responsibility of the Advisory Board.

As of April 2025, the Advisory Board consists of:

  • Reinhild Lange, senior consultant and specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation, responsible director
  • Jette Schack, PhD, physiotherapist, Sophies Minde, Oslo
  • Linn Reed-Schwanborg, PhD candidate, prosthetist and orthotist at Sophies Minde
  • Vibeche Moland Dias, PhD candidate, senior consultant and specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation

The Advisory Board will be expanded to include one representative from each health trust/institution included in the registry, up to a maximum of seven members. The Leg Amputation Professional Network, a national multidisciplinary network, is the registry’s reference group. The network includes user representatives.

Sørlandet Hospital HF, represented by its Managing Director, is the data controller for the registry. The Data Protection Officer at Sørlandet Hospital has approved it (21/00201). The information in the registry is processed on the basis of Article 6(1)(a) and Article 9(2)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation.

NorAmp-Rehab is a long-term research registry based on broad consent. The purpose of the registry is to collect data describing the rehabilitation process received by people following leg amputation. The registry was established at Sørlandet Hospital HF and has included other health trusts; further health trusts are being included on an ongoing basis.

Noramp-rehab collects information about the entire rehabilitation process following leg amputation. All patients admitted to a rehabilitation department/institution, or considered candidates for amputation rehabilitation, are asked to consent to participate in the registry. Demographic data are collected at enrolment. At the end of primary rehabilitation following leg amputation, data are collected on prosthetic fitting and the duration of rehabilitation. At the end of the rehabilitation stay and at follow-up appointments 4, 6, 12 and 24 months after amputation, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) on perceived quality of life and function are recorded, along with data on prosthesis use and pain, as well as walking test results. Data are also recorded describing the course of care in terms of assistance needs, readmission to a rehabilitation department/institution, and basic information about prosthesis type.

The purpose of NorAmp-Rehab is to collect data suitable for research and for improving the quality of rehabilitation services provided in Norway to people following leg amputation.

Information for you as a patient

What is NorAmp-Rehab?

NorAmp-Rehab is a research registry that aims to increase knowledge about leg amputations and rehabilitation in Norway. The registry collects data on various aspects of amputation, including the reasons for amputation, surgical methods and rehabilitation services within specialist healthcare.

Through NorAmp-Rehab, researchers aim to gain a better understanding of how people with leg amputations manage in everyday life, both with and without a prosthesis. The registry examines, among other things, functional ability, quality of life, pain and long-term follow-up after amputation. The aim is to use this knowledge to improve care pathways, rehabilitation services and follow-up for people with leg amputations in Norway.

By participating in NorAmp-Rehab, you contribute to important research that can lead to better health and rehabilitation services for future patients.

How to participate as a patient in Noramp-rehab

Everyone who has undergone a leg amputation and is admitted to a rehabilitation department at a participating health trust or rehabilitation institution will be asked whether they wish to participate. If you wish to participate, you must sign a consent form.

Participation in the registry is voluntary. You can withdraw your consent at any time without giving a reason. There will be no negative consequences for you or your treatment if you do not wish to participate or later choose to withdraw. If you withdraw your consent, your health information will not be used in further research.

By signing the consent form, you give permission for specific information to be recorded in the registry.

Information will be collected during your rehabilitation and at routine follow-up appointments 4, (6), 12 and 24 months after amputation. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire about your function and quality of life, and information about pain and prosthesis use will be collected at these times.

The information recorded about you will only be used as described and is intended for long-term use in a quality-assured, approved database. It will be processed without your name, national identity number or other directly identifying information. You have the right to access the information recorded about you and to have any errors corrected.

Where can I find more information about amputations?

Sørlandet Hospital HF (SSHF), Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, funded the establishment of the registry. IT support was provided by the registry support team at Oslo University Hospital and the research unit at SSHF.
