Travel expenses for children as next of kin
Children may have their travel expenses covered to receive necessary information or follow-up from healthcare professionals when their parents or siblings receive healthcare.
Children who are next of kin or bereaved may have their travel expenses covered when travelling to healthcare professionals who can provide them with information and necessary follow-up because the child's parent or sibling is a patient with a mental illness, substance dependence, or a serious physical illness or injury. The same applies when a parent or sibling dies.
However, this right does not apply when children and young people travel to visit or spend time with their parents or siblings.

How to have travel expenses covered
To apply to have the child's travel expenses covered, the Norwegian Patient Travel Reimbursement Form must be completed on paper and sent by post. It is important to include confirmation of attendance from a healthcare professional or provider with the application.
