The Hearing Center

The Hearing Center is the hospital's specialist unit for hearing diagnostics and rehabilitation of the hearing impaired. Continuous development work is carried out to be able to offer the best possible diagnostic and treatment services. We collaborate with clinics and doctors and offer our patients the best possible diagnosis of hearing and balance problems.

To be able to adjust a hearing aid, relevant hearing tests and a diagnosis must be available. Hearing aids are ordered individually after a needs assessment, and we assist in applying for coverage of hearing aid expenses from NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration). Trying out hearing aids requires several consultations at The Hearing Center. The Hearing Center offers follow-up in a lifelong perspective.

All municipalities in Agder have hearing contacts. Here you can get advice, guidance and practical help in using hearing aids and technical aids. They also assist in applying for technical aids in daily life. Contact information can be obtained from The Hearing Center or by contacting your municipality directly.

The Hearing Center offers service consultations if problems arise with hearing aids dispensed by Southern Norway Hospital.

Hearing aids that have been fitted at other clinics must be followed up there.

We check the hearing aids, perform simple repairs or assist with equipment maintenance. We also send hearing aids for repair with the supplier and take impressions for new ear molds.

Do you need an adjustment of the sound, you must book a regular consultation appointment.

Many patients and relatives want to take photos/videos or blog about their time at the hospital. Of course, you are welcome to do so, as long as you respect the privacy of others and employees.

Here are a few good tips for using social media for you as a patient or relative:

  • Respect others. You must have consent if you want to take pictures or videos of patients or employees. All patients have a right to privacy when they are at the hospital.
  • Parents/guardians decide whether you can take pictures of children or publish pictures of their children online. Parents should consider what is best for the child. When the child is 12 years old, great weight should be given to what the child thinks. When the child is 15 years old, they decide for themselves whether it is okay to be photographed and whether they should be published or not.
  • Remember that employees must also give their permission if you want to publish pictures you have taken of them.
  • You should remove content you have published if the person involved asks you to. If someone has posted pictures of you on the internet without permission, you can ask them to delete it. If you are not heard, you can contact: www.slettmeg.no.

Sound Recording
It is not illegal to make recordings of conversations you participate in for private use. Publishing and sharing, however, requires consent from the person you are talking to. Secret recordings of conversations you do not participate in are illegal.

Have you worked in the healthcare sector or received healthcare assistance outside of Scandinavia in the last year?

For example, it could be hospitalization, extensive outpatient treatment, or a visit to the dentist. Then your family doctor must test you for bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics (for example, MRSA).

Ask your family doctor to send you the test results before your appointment with us and bring them with you when you come to the hospital.

Kiosk
You will find the kiosk on the 1st floor in the main building's vestibule at Eg.

Opening hours:
Monday-Friday: 08:00-20:00
Saturday and Sunday: 09:30-20:00

In the kiosk, you can buy, among other things, newspapers, magazines, fruit, chocolate, cookies, ice cream, soft drinks, flowers, cards and various souvenirs.

Cafeteria
"Kilden" cafeteria is located together with the kiosk and has the same opening hours.

The cafeteria serves, among other things, rolls, baguettes, salads, cakes, hamburgers and sausages.

We encourage everyone to use mobile etiquette and to respect their fellow patients. It is important to put your phone on silent at night, and on mute or vibration during the day. Out of consideration for other patients, it is advisable to leave the room if you need to have a longer conversation.
